President Barack Obama is seen as one of the most controversial presidents in the recent U.S. history. This paper will examine Obama s legacy by introducing his background prior to the white House; analyze Obama’s major accomplishments and challenges in the past 8 years. What many parents do not know is that schools receive $400 a year for every child labeled with ADHD, or that Doctors get paid by the pharmaceutical companies for every ADHD stimulant prescription that is filled. When a child is diagnosed with ADHD they are placed on a psychotropic drug also known as a stimulant. This stimulant is used to control the symptoms of ADHD.Examples of these stimulants are Adderall, Focalin, Dexedrine, Methilyn and Ritalin amongst others. Many parents might be told by their child’s school that their child shows signs of ADHD. Schools will even refer the child to a specific doctor where the parents can go and have the child evaluated. When the child is labeled ADHD and placed on these drugs they are now considered mentally disabled.People may ask why the word labeled is being used somewhat than diagnosed. Without proper testing and proper diagnosing it is just considered a label. The biggest obstacle today is there are many other problems that have the same symptoms of ADHD. Many parents settle for ADHD as a diagnosis before taking a closer look at other things. There are over 50 conditions that can mimic ADD/ADHD such as hypoglycemia, allergies, lead levels, toxin exposure, genetic defects, abusive home, drug or alcohol abuse in the home, depression, and anxiety amongst others. Maybe the child is calling out for attention; maybe the child needs help and does not know how to express it. Why are parents, teachers and health professionals allowing our children to be drugged is beyond my understanding. Studies show that between 70 and 80% of children on ADHD stimulants show improvement in behavior, academically and socially (Rabiner, n. d. ). The problem is that without the proper research, no one knows how long the improvements last. The improvement can be long-term, or it can be short-term. The benefits of these stimulants may be a good sign for some but the main question is if it helps 70-80% of children what happens with the other 20-30 percent? Do we just turn our backs on them and let them be? What many parents do not realize is that when their child is labeled as having ADHD they are labeled as being mentally ill. When labeled mentally ill the child is no longer looked at as a normal child. In an unexpected twist of events, I was going to be presenting the defense pretrial argument before the judge on that day. Just earlier that Sunday morning, the lead position had been wrested away from another member of the team and bestowed upon me. The coaches had decided that my teammate’s performance was bordering near subpar and believed that I had the potential to deliver a powerful pretrial motion in two days. In order to prepare for my first oratory in the courtroom, I was now required to go to my captain’s house for one final practice on Monday night, which also happened to be the same time as play rehearsal. That this requirement always applies is supported by the examples in (8) and (9) where semantically, there is no need for a subject, and yet, a pronoun â€Å"it† has to be inserted. It (T) is raining. The objection that in sentences like (6) subject is simply not necessary can be replied to by the example in (10), where we can see that as soon as the subject of the embedded clause is not co-referential with that of the main clause, it cannot be left out. John wants his sister to become a millionaire. Finally, one additional and quite convincing proof for the existence of PRO comes from binding. Binding theory would require that if PRO is really present in the embedded clauses, it should be able to bind reflexives. If there is no PRO, then the main clause subject should not be able to bind the reflexives as binding does not cross clause boundaries, and the sentence would be ungrammatical. The conditions imposed by binding turn out to fit perfectly with the theory of PRO as the sentence in (11) is perfectly grammatical. John wants to transform himself. Conclusion In conclusion, generative syntax enables us to attempt to study the notion as exciting as Universal Grammar with great scientific rigor and precision.
